Asbestos Surveys

Asbestos KILLS! Asbestos related diseases are expected to kill 5,000 in 2010, with the figures likely to rise to 10,000 by 2011. Every week, 20 tradesmen die from this hidden killer. Any building built or refurbished before the year 2000 could contain asbestos. The current Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2006 now have an explicit "Duty to Manage" (Regulation 4 of the CAWR 2006).

Who has a duty to manage asbestos?

A wide range of people potentially have obligations under this regulation, including employers and the self-employed, if they have responsibilities for maintaining or repairing non-domestic premises, and the owner of those premises, whether they are occupied or vacant. Duty Holders will be required to:

  • Carry out an assessment as to whether asbestos is present and determining its condition;
  • Recording the results of the assessment and ensuring that they are passed on to the occupier of the premises;
  • Collaborating with the occupier and others in the preparation and implementation of the management plan to control the risk from Asbestos Containing Materials; and
  • Ensuring that anyone potentially at risk receives information on the location and condition of the materials, so far as it is within their control.

Safetymen can now help you at each stage to comply with these Regulations, including site surveys, clearance strategies and training, using our BOHS P402 Qualified Asbestos Surveyor.
