Introduction:
The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998 r9(1) requires that every employer shall ensure that all employees who use work equipment receive adequate training for the purposes of health and safety. This is to include, training in the methods which may be adopted when using work equipment, any risks which such use may entail and precautions to be taken. This duty extends to any employee who manages or supervises the use of work equipment. Under the HSWA 1974 s2(1), the employer must ensure the health, safety and welfare of their employees. The aim of this course is to provide delegates with an understanding of the relevant operational and safety requirements applicable to Ride-on Vibrating Roller Operatives working in the construction industry and allied environments.
Course Objectives:
On completion of this course, the trainee will be aware of the relevant health and safety regulations, have a good understanding of the hazards arising from the use of the work equipment and be aware of accident prevention and control, be aware of the needs regarding personal protection, be aware of the need to refer to the Manufacturers Instruction Manual and carry out pre-user checks, workplace checks, guarding checks, and understanding the correct techniques to be able to operate a Ride-on Vibrating Roller safely and correctly.
Who Should Attend:
Anyone who is required to operate, or supervise the operation of a Ride-on Roller at work. As this is a one day course it is not suitable for novice operators, who would be directed to the four day course.
The programme will consist of the following subjects:
- Introduction
- Pre Course Theory Test Paper
- Statutory Instruments (the law)
- Regulations (MHSW, PUWER, LOLER, CDM, PPE, NAW, COSHH, RIDDOR)
- Basic construction, names of components, controls and guages
- Analysis of accidents / case studies / whole body vibration
- Pre-use inspections, starting, running and close down procedures
- Rolling and compacting
- After use checks
- Care and Maintenance
- Post Course Theory Test
- Course Evaluation / Course Appraisals
