MEWP’s for Management Course:
With the introduction of the Work at Height Regulations 2005, we know that the HSE has been concentrating on reducing the biggest cause of death and injury in the workplace – falls from height, by a rigorous site inspection campaign. All Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) operators are having to undergo thorough training, and the operators now tend to be better informed about the selection, safe operation and legislation concerning MEWP’s than those managing and supervising them.
This Course tells you what ISO 18878 (MEWP Operator Training) trained operators learn, describes the different types of platform available – to ensure the manager selects the correct category, the advantages and disadvantages of different MEWP types, the advantages to be gained from a free site survey, selection of PPE, considerations for safety and Health and Safety Legislation, and how PUWER, LOLER and WAH should be reflected in Risk Assessment and Method Statements, plus a round up of the paperwork, logistic and mechanical support necessary to improve efficiency, reduce time wasted by both the operative and his management chain, and thus reduce time-on-hire costs. The HSE is also running a further campaign to see that employers are fulfilling their legal obligation of ensuring that not only operators, but anyone responsible for “supervising or managing the use of MEWP’s” has adequate training to do so competently.
The resulting Certificate of Training as a “Manager for MEWP’s” produces the proof of competency.
