The Abrasive Wheels Regulations became Law in 1970, stating that only trained persons, who were deemed competent by their employer and were appointed in writing, were permitted to inspect and mount abrasive wheels at work.
The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1992 (PUWER), updated in 1998, now covers the use of abrasive wheels in the workplace. The aim of this course is to train people in the skills and knowledge needed to achieve the standards of competency required to carry out the pre-use inspection and safe and correct fitting of abrasive wheels in the workplace.
On completion of this course the trainee will be able to identify defects which is the purpose of the inspection to discover and to have a basic understanding of the safe and correct mounting of abrasive wheels. This course will also cover the basic requirements of the: Electricity at Work Regulations, Personal Protective Equipment Regulations (PPE Regulations), The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH Regulations), The Control of Noise at Work Regulations and the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations (with reference to HAVS).
The training is intended to benefit individuals involved with inspecting and mounting abrasive wheels at work.
This is a Half Day (08:45 – 13:00) classroom based course, with assessments.
Delegates will be required to carry out wheel inspections, mount wheels correctly on portable cutters and complete a written test paper.
