Employers are legally required to provide training to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, the health and safety of their employees at work. At a minimum:

  • Employees must receive hazard information as part of their initial induction training.
  • They must also be trained on the key findings from Risk Assessments and Safe Working Procedures to ensure they can perform their duties safely.
  • Basic Health & Safety Awareness training is recommended, covering common topics such as Risk Assessment, Fire Safety, Manual Handling, Accidents, Workplace Transport, Machinery, Work Equipment, Noise, Vibration, Electricity, Hazardous Substances, Stress, Violence, Display Screen Equipment, Asbestos, and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Certain employees require specialized training, such as Fire Wardens, First Aiders, and operators of equipment like Forklift Trucks or Mobile Elevated Work Platforms.
  • Regular refresher training is essential. Basic Awareness training is generally updated every three years, though more frequent updates may be necessary depending on specific workplace hazards
